Nitish expresses concern over flood situation in Gandak river in Bihar

Patna, Oct 3 (UNI) Janata Dal United (JD(U)) national president and former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday expressed concern over the flood situation in the Gandak river caused by heavy rainfall in Nepal and reviewed the relief and rescue measures being undertaken by the state government.
Kumar held a detailed discussion with Disaster Management Minister Ratnesh Sada at his residential office at 7, Circular Road here regarding the flood situation and its impact on several districts of the state.
JD(U) state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, JD(U) Legislature Party leader and Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, Deputy Leader of the ruling party in the Legislative Council Lalan Sarraf, Chief Whip Sanjay Gandhi and others were present during the meeting.
Kumar said heavy rainfall in Nepal had led to flooding in the Gandak river, while breaches in embankments had severely affected around 250 villages and more than three lakh people in six districts, including Saran. Several other rivers in the state were also in spate, he said.
He stressed the need for prompt assistance to people affected by the floods and urged the authorities to remain fully engaged in providing all possible help to those in need.
During the meeting, Sada briefed Kumar about the relief and rescue operations being carried out by the government in the flood-affected areas. Kumar expressed satisfaction with the measures being taken.
He said, “We must never forget that the first right over the state exchequer belongs to disaster victims.”
He urged the NDA government to continue improving upon the standards of public service established based on this approach.
