Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee meets CM Revanth Reddy, lauds Telangana’s visionary initiatives

Hyderabad, May 17 (UNI) Nobel Laureate and renowned economist Abhijit Banerjee paid a courtesy visit to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday at the Integrated Command and Control Center in Banjara Hills.
During the meeting, they engaged in a detailed discussion on the state’s financial condition, governance initiatives, and the developmental schemes being implemented by the people’s government.
Discussions focused on the state’s economic growth, strategies to enhance revenue, maintaining financial discipline, urban development, skill development, and employment generation.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also highlighted Hyderabad’s centuries-old legacy and the global recognition of products made in the region. He emphasised the need to globally showcase Telangana’s unique identity and its socio-economic strengths.
The Chief Minister briefed Banerjee on the government’s revolutionary initiatives in empowering women self-help groups, uplifting farmers, creating employment opportunities for youth, and launching skill development programs.
He extended an invitation to Abhijit Banerjee to join the Telangana Rising Vision Board, a body being established to shape the long-term developmental roadmap of the state. Banerjee accepted the invitation and praised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s forward-thinking leadership and inclusive vision.
The meeting also touched upon key reforms under the current government, including the appointment of transgender individuals in police and municipal departments, plans to develop the Hyderabad core urban area within the Outer Ring Road as a service sector hub, and proposals to establish a Skill University and a Sports University.
Abhijit Banerjee offered valuable suggestions, recommending that arts, crafts, and creativity be integrated into the planned Bharat Future City. He advocated for the organisation of short-term courses aimed at transforming traditional artisans into modern entrepreneurs by equipping them with cutting-edge technology, digital marketing skills, and access to social media platforms.
The meeting was attended by State IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Government Principal Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, Principal Secretary to the Finance Department Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Ajith Reddy, Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand, and other senior officials, an official statement said.
