Normal life crippled by heavy rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm in Himachal

Shimla, May 25 (UNI) Life was thrown out of gear as very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and hailstorms wreaked havoc in several parts of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.
High-velocity winds reaching up to 70 kmph and severe hail battered towns, snapping electricity and telecom services and felling trees and power lines.
Flash floods washed away around 24 vehicles in Nirmand and Jagad Khana of Kullu district, reflecting the intensity of the sudden cloudbursts. The downpour also caused significant losses to standing apple and mango crops in the mid-hills and lower regions.
Marketplaces wore a deserted look as strong winds and waterlogging restricted public movement.
According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall was recorded in several stations, with Pachhad receiving 107 mm, Kandaghat 103.2 mm, Nagrota Suriyan 43.2 mm, and Chopal 40 mm. Solan, Rampur, and Kufri also recorded significant rainfall of 36.6 mm, 38.2 mm, and 27 mm, respectively.
Kukumseri in Lahaul Spiti recorded the lowest 7.6 degrees Celsius(minimum )temperature and Paonta Sahib at 40 degrees (maximum) yesterday
Shimla recorded Min 12.0°C, Max 25.6°C, Rain 22.5 mm, Solan: Min 15.6°C, Max 30.0°C, Rain 36.6 mm, Hamirpur: Min 21.3°C, Max 36.0°C, Rain 25.0 mm and Kufri: Min 9.7°C, Max 21.0°C, Rain 27.0 mm
Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast continued thunderstorms and gusty winds (40–60 kmph) at isolated places over the next few days, with potential for more hailstorms and heavy rainfall in select regions. UNI ML SSP
