Odisha BJD demands CBI probe into alleged gang rape and murder of minor school girl in Jaleswar

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29 (UNI) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Jaleswar area of Balasore district, alleging police negligence and political interference in the case.
Addressing a press conference, BJD Senior General Secretary and National Spokesperson Dr. Lekhasree Samantsinghar and MLA Ashwini Patra expressed deep anguish over the incident and called for a transparent and impartial investigation to establish the truth and ensure justice for the victim’s family.
Samantsinghar alleged that the minor girl was raped and subsequently murdered on October 15, 2026, in the Bartana Gram Panchayat area. She further claimed that the police, allegedly under pressure from BJP leaders, had released the accused even before the missing girl was traced.
Demanding immediate action, she urged the police to conduct a fair investigation, arrest all those involved and undertake a comprehensive forensic examination to establish the cause of death and identify those allegedly responsible for destroying evidence.
She also criticised the State Government’s response, stating that the suspension of Karan Marandi, Officer-in-Charge of the Nampo Police Outpost, and the transfer of Ashok Barik, Inspector-in-Charge of Jaleswar Police Station, were not sufficient measures in such a sensitive case.
The BJD leader demanded strict legal action against all those found responsible and called on the government to ensure that the victim’s family receives justice.
MLA Ashwini Patra said the alleged gang rape and murder of the minor girl had triggered widespread outrage in the Jaleswar area. He demanded a thorough examination of forensic evidence, CCTV footage, call detail records (CDRs) and other relevant information to establish the sequence of events and identify.
