Odisha CM announces cash awards for Indian women’s hockey team after Asian Games gold

Bhubaneswar, Oct 3 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced cash awards of Rs 11 lakh each for members of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team and Rs 5.5 lakh each for the support staff following their historic gold medal triumph at the 2026 Asian Games.
Congratulating the team on its outstanding performance, Majhi lauded the players for their determination, commitment and fighting spirit, saying their achievement had brought immense pride to the nation.
The Chief Minister said the Odisha Government stood firmly behind Indian hockey and remained committed to supporting athletes and nurturing sporting excellence.
Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also congratulated the Indian Women’s Hockey Team on winning the Asian Games gold medal after a gap of 44 years.
In a post on X, Patnaik said the team had made every Indian proud by defeating defending champions China and securing qualification for the 2028 Olympics.
"It is a profoundly moving moment for me and everyone in Odisha whose bond with hockey runs deep," Patnaik said.
He hoped the triumph would infuse fresh energy into Indian hockey and usher in a new era of laurels and glory for the country.
The BJD president also extended his best wishes to the team for its future endeavours.
