Odisha Police recovers 3.8 tons of 5 tons of explosives looted by armed Maoists: DGP

Bhubaneswar, June 4 (UNI) The Odisha police have recovered about 3.8 tons out of 5 tons of explosives looted by Maoists on May 27, Odisha DGP Y B Khurania said on Wednesday.
Addressing newsmen here, Khurania said that about 5 tons of explosives were being transported from the explosives warehouse at Bada Gaon Itma to the Banko mine in a truck on May 27 when
the armed Maoists looted the explosives at gunpoint.
The armed Maoists intercepted a truck carrying licensed commercial explosives near the Banko stone quarry under K. Balang police limits and looted gelatin sticks and other high-intensity explosives, weighing about 5 tons.
The DGP said that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was not followed during the transportation of these explosives.
The police, he said, should have been informed about the transportation of such a large quantity
of explosives.
He said that following the incident, the Odisha Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), and a massive search operation was launched with the help of the Jharkhand police, CRPF, SOG, and the elite COBRA unit.
During this investigation, a truck loaded with explosives belonging to Shravan Agarwal, the owner of Bada Gaon Itma Mine, was found near Deogaon petrol pump.
Shravan Agarwal and his driver, Birsa Samad, have been arrested by the SIT.
