Bhubaneswar, June 9 (UNI) Odisha Vigilance sleuths have nabbed Dharmagarh sub-collector Dhiman Chakma, an IAS officer of the 2021 batch, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a local businessman.
Vigilance sources said the IAS officer was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 10 lakh on Sunday. This amount was an installment of the overall Rs 20 lakh bribe demand.
Chakma had allegedly threatened the businessman that he would act against his business if he did not receive the bribe.
Vigilance sources said the sub-collector called the complainant to his official government residence at Dharamgarh, where he received the bribe amount. He verified the 26 bundles of Rs 100 notes of different denominations and kept them inside his office table drawer.
Following this, an additional Rs 47 lakh in cash was recovered during searches at his official residence. Further searches are in progress.
A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended by the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
