Odisha woman returns home after decades, traced to Himachal Pradesh old-age home

Bhubaneswar, Oct 5 (UNI) A 70-year-old Odisha woman who had been separated from her family for decades has finally returned home after being traced to an old-age home in Himachal Pradesh, police said on Monday.
Pramila Malik, a resident of Baluria village under Pattamundai police station in Kendrapara district, was reunited with her family at her native place on October 4, bringing an end to years of separation, Police said.
According to police, Pramila had left her matrimonial home several decades ago in September and later left her parental home following the death of her father. She subsequently lost contact with her family.
Institutional records showed that Pramila had stayed at the Mental Health Institute in Shimla from 2011 to 2018. She was subsequently admitted to Nari Niketan in Shimla before being shifted to an old-age home at Bhangrotu in Mandi district in February 2023.
A team led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Balh, traced her identity and family with the assistance of Odisha Police. After learning that her family had been located, Pramila expressed her desire to return to Odisha and reunite with them.
Following directions from the Kendrapara Superintendent of Police, a special police team was formed on September 26 and dispatched to Himachal Pradesh. After completing the necessary formalities and coordinatingauthorities, the team brought Pramila back to Odisha.
She was reunited with her family at her native place under Pattamundai police station on October 4.
Police said the reunion was facilitated through coordination between the authorities in Himachal Pradesh and Odisha, with arrangements made for Pramila’s safety and well-being.UNI MK AAB
