Odisha woman traced in Himachal Pradesh, reunited with family after nearly four decades

Kendrapada, Oct 5 (UNI) In a remarkable reunion after nearly four decades of separation, Odisha Police traced a woman from Kendrapara who had spent years in institutional care in Himachal Pradesh and brought her back to her native village, reuniting her with her family.
Pramila Malik, daughter of late Krushna Malik of Baluria village under Pattamundai police station, had married late Dinabandhu Malik of Nandalal Patna in Alapua in 1986. The couple had a son, Dhrubacharan Malik, who was born in February 1987.
Pramila subsequently left her matrimonial home and returned to her parental house. After the death of her father, she reportedly left home without informing her family members or relatives.
In the intervening years, her husband married her younger sister, Urmila Malik.
According to institutional records, Pramila stayed at the Mental Health Institute in Shimla from 2011 to 2018. She was later admitted to Nari Niketan in Shimla before being shifted to an old-age home at Bhangrotu in Mandi district in February 2023.
Her identity and family connections were traced by a team led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Balh, Mandi, which subsequently coordinated with the Odisha Police to establish her links with her family in Pattamundai.
Following the direction of Kendrapada SP Siddharth Kataria, a special police team was constituted on September 26 to facilitate Pramila's return to Odisha.
After completing the necessary formalities in Himachal Pradesh, the team brought her safely back to Odisha.
On October 4, Pramila was reunited with her family at her native place, bringing an end to nearly four decades of separation.
The reunion was conducted peacefully, with the authorities ensuring her safety, dignity and well-being throughout the process.
Locals appreciated the efforts of the Kendrapara SP and the special police team in tracing Pramila and facilitating her reunion with her family after such a prolonged separation.
