Oppn DMK, AIADMK no longer rivals, but hand in glove; both serves same ‘master’: Vijay

By MC Rajan
Chennai, Sep 30 (UNI) Upping his ante and launching a no-holds barred attack on the principal opposition DMK and the AIADMK and accusing them of acting hand in glove, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Thursday alleged that the two Dravidian majors serve the same ‘master’.
“The DMK and AIADMK are hand in glove; both have the same owner. Do not believe the lies they peddle against the government.
They have colluded to topple us, but they can’t succeed in their evil design. They are two parties, but serve the same master,” he said, addressing a maiden election rally at Dharapuram in Tiruppur district, canvassing support for the party candidate P Sathyabama for the October six bypoll.
Though Vijay didn’t name the ‘master’, he left no one in doubt that it is the BJP.
The bypoll for Dharapuram and Madurantakam assembly constituencies, considered a litmus test for the TVK, followed the resignation of two AIADMK legislators within 20 days of their election and their switching to the ruling TVK.
The two seats are reserved, and Vijay has rewarded both the turncoats with re-nomination of Maragatham Kumaravel as the candidate for Madurantakam and P.Sathyabama from Dharapuram.
Asking the electorate to hand a massive victory to the TVK, Vijay targeted both the DMK and AIADMK, saying both could not digest
the TVK being elected to power. “The AIADMK coming to the defence of the DMK when I took on the latter in the Assembly with the Sarkaria Commission report (on corruption in the then Karunanidhi government) was surprising. Why should the AIADMK get offended? The DMK getting incensed is understandable. But why the AIADMK, though the issue has been debated in the House during the Jayalalithaa regime? This even confused us initially,” he said, claiming that this was proof of the two acting in tandem.
Vijay’s narrative is focused on occupying the political space of the declining AIADMK by positioning the TVK as the sole anti-DMK force and making the political trajectory bipolar. “Against whom did MGR (AIADMK founder and late Chief Minister) launch his party? Against whom did Jayalalithaa wage her political battle? Is it not an insult to MGR and Jayalalithaa for the AIADMK to play ball to the DMK? Will it not leave the AIADMK cadre in agony?” he asked, adding that the current AIADMK leadership has betrayed MGR and Jayalalithaa that prompted the candidate to switch sides, while the TVK is taking on the DMK in their footsteps.
Reiterating his oft-repeated offensive branding the DMK as an evil force, continuing in a monarchical mindset of retaining power even after defeat, he said the DMK is suffering from political amnesia and has courtiers to debunk the TVK while the dynastic heir apparent has turned into a river of vulgarity and obscene innuendoes. “The more you indulge in this, the more the support for us among the people,” Vijay made it clear.
On the DMK general secretary’s remark that party founder Anna (C.N. Annadurai) made commoners into leaders and legislators, he
said, “They have forgotten Anna. Like Anna and later MGR, it is the TVK which has revived that tradition by making the poor MLAs
by defeating monarchs.”
Chief Minister Vijay’s poll campaign, after assuming office as Chief Minister in May this year, comes amid stiff resistance faced by
both the candidates in many villages, with the public questioning their resignation within a month of their electoral victory. Besides the TVK, DMK, AIADMK, and the Tamil nationalist Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), the two Left parties, which extend outside support to
the minority Vijay government, are also in the fray, with each contesting one seat.
