Opposition's claim of 13 crore votes theft is baseless, Rahul Gandhi is spreading confusion about SSR: Sambit Patra

Varanasi, Nov 2 (UNI) Targeting the Opposition and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Kashi on Monday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra said that confusion is being spread in the country regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
He termed Gandhi's claim of 13 crore votes stolen as baseless and said that if such a large number of votes had been stolen, there would have been protests on the streets.
Speaking to reporters at the Circuit House, Patra said that the SIR process is still ongoing and has not ended. He said, "SIR was fine when it happened during your time, but how is it wrong now? This is a process of purifying the voter list."
He said that names of people in four categories are being removed from the voter list: absentee, transferred, deceased, and duplicate voters. Approximately 3 crore voters are in the absentee category. The Booth Level Officer (BLO) visits their homes three times. If they are absent all three times, their names are included in this category. Such voters can re-add their names by filling out Form 6.
Patra stated that approximately 60 million voters are in the transferred category. Notices have been sent to them. Their names can also be added to the voter list by filling out the prescribed form. He explained that approximately 28 million people have been declared dead. Often, family members do not report the removal of the deceased's name, making it necessary to purify the voter list.
He stated that the number of duplicate voters is also approximately 10 million. The names of such voters will be placed in one place. By combining the data from all these categories, a claim of 130 million votes being stolen is being made, which is completely misleading.
The BJP spokesperson asked whether it was appropriate to allow the names of deceased people to remain on the voter list. He also questioned the allegations of the BJP's victory in West Bengal after the removal of names from the voter list. He pointed out that the Trinamool Congress won most of the 20 assembly constituencies where the highest number of names were deleted.
Patra stated that the entire process is being conducted under the purview of Election Commission officials. He claimed that the Supreme Court has also upheld this process.
He also rejected Rahul Gandhi's allegations regarding Form 6. He stated that Form 6 has not been amended. A declaration form has been attached to it, which asks voters to provide information about their names on the voter list in 2002, 2003, or 2004.
Patra stated that the allegation that young people are not being added to the voter list is also misleading. He claimed that the names of 23.7 million young people aged 18 to 28 have been added to the voter list so far.
He took a dig at the opposition, saying that they are used to evading work, and hence are raising the slogan of vote theft. UNI MBD NST CDS
