UP government's major step: Timely resolution of student problems in medical colleges

Lucknow, Nov 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh is prioritizing the quality of education and health services, as well as the interests and facilities of students.
The state Medical Education Department has taken a significant initiative to ensure prompt and effective resolution of student problems in the state's government and autonomous medical colleges. The department has initiated the process of implementing a three-tier grievance redressal system in all medical colleges. This initiative aims to develop a safe, positive, transparent, and student-centered educational environment in medical colleges.
Under the Student Grievances and Welfare Initiative, initiated by Director General of Medical Education and Training, Neha Sharma, a Student Welfare Nodal Officer will be designated in each medical college. An institutional mechanism will be developed to address student complaints, suggestions, and issues and ensure their resolution.
Under the new system, a Student Grievance/Voice Box will be installed in the teaching/academic campus of each medical college. Students will be able to submit their academic, administrative, hostel, infrastructure, security, and other student welfare-related issues in writing through this box.
The designated Nodal Officer will open the complaint box daily. They will record the received complaints in a designated register and ensure their resolution through the relevant departments. This will provide a systematic and accessible channel for students to bring their concerns directly to the attention of the institution.
The Medical Education Department has established a three-tier system for grievance redressal. At the first level, the Student Welfare Nodal Officer will receive the complaint and initiate the resolution process. If the issue is not resolved at the designated level, students will be able to present their complaint to the Principal of the Medical College.
If a resolution is not found at the second level, students will be able to lodge their complaint with the Student Cell of the Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME Office). This creates a mechanism for resolving and monitoring complaints from the college level to the Directorate General.
This initiative by the Yogi government will create an accountable system for addressing and resolving student issues at the institutional level in medical colleges. Record keeping, regular review, and feedback will enhance transparency in the system. Students will also have clear channels and designated administrative levels to resolve their issues. This initiative is crucial in achieving Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of improving medical education in the state and creating a conducive academic environment for students.
