Lauding the state police for ensuring safe and smooth darshan, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday appreciated the dedication and professionalism of police personnel deployed during the festivities.
He said ensuring the safety and convenience of lakhs of pilgrims visiting the state's sacred shrines was an important responsibility of the government.
He also commended the coordinated efforts of the police, district administrations, temple trusts, Home Guards and other agencies in facilitating a hassle-free pilgrimage.
Managing the large influx of devotees, particularly at temples located in hilly terrain with narrow approach roads and limited parking facilities, required meticulous planning and continuous supervision, he said.
The police made elaborate arrangements for crowd management, traffic regulation, parking, queue management and public safety, enabling pilgrims to offer prayers without avoidable inconvenience.
Sukhu also appreciated the police personnel who remained on duty for long hours and acknowledged the cooperation extended by temple authorities, volunteers, local residents and devotees.
He appealed to citizens and visitors to use the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS)-112 helpline for round-the-clock police, fire or ambulance assistance whenever required.
Director General of Police Ashok Tewari expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the appreciation, saying the recognition would motivate the force to serve the public with greater dedication, sensitivity and professionalism.
The DGP also commended the district police chiefs, supervisory officers and personnel deployed during Navratri and reiterated the commitment of the state police to ensuring the safety and convenience of pilgrims and tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh.
