Over 3-hr ordeal ends, 30 visitors struck at 150 ft height in a ride at amusement park, safely rescued

Chennai, May 27 (UNI) Ending their over three hour ordeal, 30 visitors, who were struck at a height
of 15 ft following a technical glitch in the Top Gun ride at a popular amusement park on the ECR on
the outskirts of the city, were safely rescued on Tuesday night.
Fire service personnel along with police officials rescued all the stranded visitors using hydraulic
cranes, ending their over three hour long ordeal.
Among those stranded included ten women, eight kids and an elderly man.
The successful rescue operations brought a huge sigh of relief among tens and hundreds of visitors
who had thronged the park with their wards to enjoy the summer holidays.
Soon after they were rescued, refreshments were given and those who needed medical assistance
were also provided by the medical team which was stationed at the spot along with an ambulance.
Panic gripped as the ride got stuck soon after it was operated at 1800 hrs following a sound in the
motor, due to which 30 visitors were struck at a height of 150 ft.
The incident took place at the VGP Universal Kingdom, the first amusement park to come up in
the city and set up by the VGP Group, on the ECR, which also houses other such parks, setting
the trend leading to emergence of similar amusement parks up across the state.
One of those who was stranded said 30 visitors were seated in two rows with each one containing
15 visitors.
The Amusement Park management said the glitch occurred in the Top Gun ride.
Soon after the ride started, a sudden sound in the motor operating the ride was noticed following which it got struck in mid air.
Though it had immediately pressed cranes into service to rescue them, it went in vain due to insufficient height.
To ease the tension, biscuits and drinking water were served to the stranded visitors, before the
fire service and police personnel arrived and rescued them safely.
