Panchkula cracks down on illegal colonies, 12 demolition drives in three months

Panchkula, Oct 14 (UNI) The Panchkula district administration has stepped up its crackdown on illegal constructions and unauthorised colonies, with Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma directing officials to take strict legal action against violators and prevent encroachments from resurfacing after removal.
Reviewing enforcement measures at a district-level committee meeting at the Mini Secretariat, Sharma said regular drives must be conducted against illegal structures, with particular focus on controlled areas, national highways and the prescribed 30-metre restricted zones.
The administration reported that 12 demolition drives were carried out between July and September 2026, targeting unauthorised colonies and illegal developments across the district.
During the same period, two new unauthorised colonies were identified in Panchkula's urban area, and notices were issued against them under the prescribed legal process. Complaints were also sent to the police for registration of FIRs in three cases.
Sharma directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads), the Municipal Corporation Panchkula and the Municipal Council Kalka to identify encroachments along scheduled roads and within restricted zones and initiate action in accordance with the law. The concerned agencies have been asked to submit action-taken reports before the next committee meeting.
District Town Planner Babita Gupta informed the committee that demolition operations were conducted in the revenue estates of Barwala, Lehrondi, Kona, Charania, Bataur, Bahla, Bhagwanpur, Golpura, Tapariya, Gorakhnath, Khokhra and Basghati.
The operations involved the demolition of road networks and plinth-level structures (DPCs) in unauthorised colonies.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed the police department to ensure adequate deployment of personnel during demolition drives scheduled by the District Town Planner's office, so that enforcement operations could be carried out peacefully and without obstruction.
Emphasising compliance with the Periphery Control Act and the Punjab Scheduled Roads and Controlled Areas Restriction of Unregulated Development Act, 1963, Sharma said violations would invite strict action under the applicable law.
