Plans underway to establish Territorial Army ‘Mizo Company’ base in Lunglei

Lunglei, June 27 (UNI) Steps are being taken to set up the proposed Territorial Army (TA) ‘Mizo Company’ in Lunglei in southern Mizoram, with discussions underway to finalise the site and
other logistical requirements, officials said.
A coordination meeting chaired by Lunglei Deputy Commissioner Navneet Mann was held today at her office to deliberate on arrangements for the upcoming TA unit, which is being raised in response to a request from the Mizoram government.
The meeting was attended by officials from various departments, including the PHED Executive Engineer, Power & Electricity Department Executive Engineer, Land Revenue & Settlement Officer, DIPRO, and SDCs, along with Lt Col Prashant Kakade, Officer Commanding of the ‘Mizo Company’ under the 166 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army), and accompanying Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs).
Deputy Commissioner Navneet Mann stated that the process to raise the TA Mizo Company is already in motion and is expected to strengthen civil-military relations in the state.
She noted that the initiative aims to improve cooperation between the security forces and civilians, while also generating employment opportunities for local Mizo youth.
She added that as the Company will consist of Mizo personnel and serve the interests of the local population, collaboration from both the public and various government departments is essential for
its successful establishment and operation.
The site for the proposed TA unit has been identified within the army land at Kawmzawl, Lunglei. A preliminary notification covering 20 acres was issued by the Lunglei District Collector and Deputy Commissioner on June 4, 2025.
To facilitate the smooth functioning of the unit, the requirement for water supply from the PHED and power provision from the Power & Electricity Department has already been forwarded to the state government for necessary action.
