PM Modi pays tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on death anniversary

New Delhi, June 23 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tributes to Bharatiya Jana Sangh's founding president Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary, saying his invaluable contribution in nation-building will always be remembered with reverence.

In a post on X, he wrote: "Salutations to Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his Sacrifice Day. He demonstrated unparalleled courage and valor to preserve the integrity of the nation. His invaluable contribution to nation-building will always be remembered with reverence."

A former Hindu Mahasabha leader who was included in the first Cabinet, Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the precursor to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in 1951 after he had quit the government, a year ago following his differences with the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
