PM Modi praises Meghalaya's Ryndia Silk

Shillong, June 25 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised a piece Ryndia Silk fabric presented to him by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, describing it as a symbol of Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage and pride.

In a letter dated June 24, Modi acknowledged the significance of the handcrafted silk and expressed his heartfelt appreciation.

“Your thoughtfulness is touching and deeply appreciated,” Modi wrote, appreciating the Chief Minister’s gesture.

The Prime Minister emphasised Ryndia Silk’s global potential, noting its eco-friendly production and ethical value.

“Ryndia Silk stands out for its minimal environmental impact and ethical production methods,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also noted the recent grant of the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to Ryndia Silk, calling it a step forward in promoting such indigenous products on the global stage.

Recalling his visits to Meghalaya, the Prime Minister praised the affection of its people, the pristine beauty of the state and the immense potential of its youth.

“Whenever I have visited Meghalaya, I have been overwhelmed by the affection of the people, the pristine natural beauty and the unlimited potential of its energetic youth,” Modi wrote in his letter to Chief Minister Sangma.

Reaffirming his commitment to Meghalaya’s growth, Modi said, “Together, we will continue to serve the people of the state and ensure that Meghalaya plays a key role in the creation of Viksit Bharat.”

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sangma shared his gratitude on his various social media platform.

“Grateful to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodi ji for recognizing Ryndia — Meghalaya’s GI-tagged Eri silk, handwoven by Ri-Bhoi District’s women weavers. Thanks to designer KINIHO for reinterpreting our heritage with care and creativity,” Sangma posted on X.
