PM Modi to inaugurate Chinmaya Mission’s 75th anniversary global summit in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi at 11 am on October 23, marking the culmination of year-long celebrations commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Chinmaya Mission, a global spiritual organisation dedicated to spreading the teachings of Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita.
Modi will address the gathering, which is expected to bring together more than 9,000 participants from India and abroad for the three-day event, scheduled to conclude on October 25, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.
The summit will provide a platform for members of the Mission, spiritual practitioners and international participants to reflect on its seven-and-a-half decades of work in spiritual education, cultural preservation, youth empowerment and community service.
Founded by Swami Chinmayananda in 1951, the Chinmaya Mission has worked to make India’s spiritual and philosophical traditions accessible to people across generations.
Its activities encompass the study and dissemination of Vedanta, educational initiatives, cultural programmes and community-oriented services, alongside efforts to engage younger audiences in India’s philosophical heritage.
The year-long anniversary celebrations began last year with Modi releasing a Tamil versification of the Bhagavad Gita, produced by the Chinmaya Mission with music composed by renowned music director Ilaiyaraaja, at Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Tamil Nadu.
Several initiatives were subsequently organised in India and overseas to commemorate the Mission’s contribution to spiritual learning and the promotion of Indian philosophical thought.
The commemorative programme included mass havans at multiple locations and the consecration of the Maa Soundarya Chinmayi Temple in Tripura. These activities reflected the Mission’s efforts to combine traditional spiritual practices with wider public participation and outreach.
A major initiative, Chinmaya Gita Samarpanam, brought together more than one lakh people from across the world for a collective online chanting of the 15th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita.
The programme demonstrated how digital platforms could be used to connect spiritual communities across geographical boundaries and enable people to participate collectively in religious and philosophical activities.
Another initiative, Gita Panchamrit, focused on five selected verses from the Bhagavad Gita, seeking to communicate the text’s philosophical teachings to a wider audience.
Through this programme, the Mission sought to make the ancient scripture’s message more accessible to people interested in understanding its relevance to contemporary life.
Youth participation formed another important component of the anniversary celebrations. Fifteen young members of the Chinmaya Yuva Kendra undertook the Chinmaya Amrit Yatra, travelling more than 40,000 km across the country to spread the message of the Bhagavad Gita and engage with people in different regions.
The initiative highlighted the role of young people in carrying forward the Mission’s spiritual and educational work.
The three-day global gathering in the national capital will bring together members of the Chinmaya Mission and participants from different parts of the world, offering an opportunity to take stock of its journey since its establishment and discuss its continuing work in education, culture and social service.
The event will also serve as a focal point for the organisation’s international community as it concludes a year of commemorative programmes.
The anniversary initiatives have sought to bridge traditional spiritual practices and contemporary modes of engagement through collective recitation, temple consecration, youth-led outreach and digital participation.
With the inauguration of the Global Sammelan, the Mission’s year-long celebrations will reach their culmination, marking 75 years of efforts to disseminate Vedantic philosophy and the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita in India and around the world.
