Police suspect Uttarakhand minister's husband, accused of cheating and threatening to kill her, has fled to Nepal

Dehradun, Oct 21 (UNI) Uttarakhand police have failed to trace the whereabouts of Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya's husband Girdhari Lal Sahu amidst suspicion that the accused, booked for threatening to kill the minister and unleashing violence against her, has escaped to Nepal.
Uttarakhand police registered an FIR against Sahu following a complaint by the minister on October 15.
Tight-lipped senior police officials in Dehradun have informed that although it is yet to be confirmed but Girdhari Lal Sahu has possibly sneaked into the neighboring country Nepal through the border areas aligning with Champawat and US Nagar districts in Kumaon.
According to police, the matter is under discussion to increase vigilance along the Nepal border and if needed seek the help of Nepal authorities to find the fugitive husband of the Uttarakhand cabinet minister.
"There are apprehensions that Sahu might flee to Nepal through Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts in Kumaon region. It's yet to be confirmed whether he has sneaked into the borders of the neighbouring country," said a senior Uttarakhand police official in Dehradun.
According to this official, a team of Dehradun police will soon reach out to Sahu's native place Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh to look for him.
It's notable that Sahu was booked under multiple charges that included threat to kill the minister, making casteist slurs, cheating, harassment and unleashing violence against the minister.
An FIR was registered against Girdhari Lal Sahu at Dehradun Cantt police station following a complaint lodged by Arya, who heads the ministry for sports and social welfare, on October 15.
It's significant that Sahu has been underground and is on the run ever since the matter came to light and the minister lodged a complaint against him.
He however, has been making social media videos levelling various allegations against Rekha Arya, including of amassing wealth worth more than Rs 200 crore.
According to the police, as Sahu has failed to surface for nearly six days, intelligence reports suggest that he probably has fled to Nepal or must be in the process of doing so.
Meanwhile, SSP Dehradun Parmendra Singh Dobhal has stated that security agencies are keeping a close watch in these areas and Sahu will not be able to escape the police net.
Kumaon IG Nivedita Kukreti said that security agencies are on high alert along border areas and other parts of the region.
The IG stated that the accused will not remain out of the police net for too long.
In the complaint, Uttarakhand Minister Arya has alleged that Sahu concealed his first marriage and children from it.
She alleged that when she contested and questioned Sahu's extramarital affairs he assaulted her and used casteist-slurs in front of the staff at her residence.
Sahu was also accused of axing the minister as director of a company, forging her signatures and conspiring to murder her while talking to a woman in an audio clip that was released by Arya in social media.
Following this, the Uttarakhand government constituted a Special Investigation Team(SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT recorded the minister's statement on Monday evening but her husband is allegedly on the run.
