Propaganda Secy of atheist DMK stirs hornet's nest, invokes Lord Ram to attack Vijay sarkar

Chennai, Oct 25 (UNI) It was a known fact about the main Opposition DMK's atheist ideology toeing the preachings of social reformer Periyar.
In a political irony, DMK Propaganda Secretary and Pattimandram (debate) moderator Dindigul I.Leoni on Sunday stirred a hornet's nest by invoking the epic Ramayana and Lord Ram to criticise the TVK government, saying that the footwear left behind by DMK President and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was now governing Tamil Nadu, akin to how Lord Ram's sandal ruled Ayodhya.
The remark is significant given the DMK's past opposition to the Ram Sethu project and the controversy surrounding statements by some of its leaders questioning the existence of Lord Ram.
A staunch DMK loyalist, Leoni's invocation of the Ramayana to target the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has added a fresh political twist to the debate.
Speaking at a wedding function of the family of senior DMK leader and former Minister KKSSR.Ramachandran in Chennai in Stalin's presence, Leoni drew a parallel with the Ramayana episode in which Lord Ram's younger brother Bharata ruled Ayodhya by placing his footwear on the throne during his brother's exile.
He said Stalin's welfare schemes continued to benefit people even after he left office and that his footwear was governing the State, while claiming that it would be ousted in 14 months (by the end of next year). .
Leoni listed out various welfare measures launched by the previous DMK regime, went beyond praising him and launched a direct attack on the TVK government headed by Chief Minister Vijay. Referring to the 14-year period during which Bharata is traditionally said to have ruled Ayodhya using Rama's footwear, he predicted that the present government would go by 14 months, equating it to Lord Ram's exile years into months.
He claimed that the TVK government would be brought to an end within 14 weeks or 14 months and asserted that the DMK's Rising Sun symbol would return to power. His remarks have triggered political discussion, particularly over the use of a religious epic by a leader of a party known for its Dravidian rationalist tradition.
Later, in his address, Stalin exhorted the DMK cadres to be prepared to oust the ruling TVK alleging that it has failed on multiple fronts and that the law and order has deteriorated with the crime graph on the rise.
