Pune Metro Line awaiting PM Modi’s inauguration, says Congress leader Mohan Joshi

Pune, Oct 24 (UNI) Former MLA and Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee senior vice-president Mohan Joshi on Saturday criticised the delay in commencing passenger services on the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor, alleging that the line was awaiting inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi despite the necessary safety clearance having been received.
In a statement, Joshi said the Metro had been operating without passengers for more than 100 days, describing the situation as a waste of public money and an inconvenience to commuters awaiting the start of regular services.
He said employees working in the Hinjewadi IT Park, residents and commuters from areas along the route, including Maan, Aundh, Chatushrungi and Model Colony, were expecting the Metro to help ease traffic congestion in the region.
Joshi said the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety had granted permission for 17 stations on the corridor around three months ago.
He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was holding back the commencement of passenger services to ensure that the Prime Minister could inaugurate the project.
Joshi said the project was originally scheduled for completion in March. However, the Metro was still running without passengers under trial operations, prompting criticism from citizens on social media.
He also alleged that the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which implemented the project, had failed to ensure the timely commencement of services.
