Punjab agrees in principle to address pay disparity of 180 ETT teachers

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) The Punjab government on Monday agreed in principle to address a pay disparity affecting 180 Elementary Teacher Training teachers and ordered officials to expedite an ongoing inquiry into the case, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said.
The decision came during a meeting at the Punjab Civil Secretariat attended by Cheema, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and senior officials of the finance and education departments.
Representatives of the 180 ETT Teachers Union, linked to the Jai Singh Wala case, presented records and a charter of demands before the government.
The government agreed in principle to address the teachers' salary concerns arising from a disparity in pay compared with their juniors.
“To ensure that the resolution faces no administrative bottlenecks, directions were issued to obtain the ongoing inquiry report without further delay,” Cheema said.
“The Education Department has been directed to initiate immediate follow-up action based on the findings as soon as the inquiry report is submitted.”
The teachers have been seeking resolution of their salary-related grievances and parity with junior employees.
The government said further action would follow after the inquiry report was received.
