Punjab: BJP's Lalpura thanks PM and Khattar for approving two more units for Rupnagar plant

Chandigarh, June 7 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party's Rupnagar district president Ajayvir Singh Lalpura has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for giving the go-ahead for installation of two new 800 MW power units at the Rupnagar Thermal Plant.
He stated that this historic decision by the Modi government regarding the Rupnagar Thermal Plant will cater to the energy needs of not only Punjab but the entire northern region of India.
Lalpura said that Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved the installation of two new 800 MW power units at the Rupnagar Thermal Plant, adding a total new generation capacity of 1,600 megawatts.
Additionally, a total of 2,400 MW of extra electricity generation projects for Punjab have received the green light.
He said “This project will provide affordable and uninterrupted power to millions and will strengthen Punjab’s energy self-reliance, giving a new direction to industrial development."
He also informed that the maximum limit for coal supply distance has been increased from 1,000 km to over 1,500 km, ensuring a smooth fuel supply”.
