Punjab: BSF marks World environment day with extensive tree plantation campaign

Chandigarh, June 5 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) Western Command (WC) marked World Environment Day 2025 with an extensive tree plantation campaign and environmental awareness program at its Lakhnaur campus in Mohali on Thursday.
The troopers demonstrated the force's commitment to ecological conservation alongside border security duties.
The day-long event, themed around this year's global slogan "Beat Plastic Pollution", witnessed participation from over 200 BSF personnel, officers, and their families who collectively planted hundreds of saplings, including medicinal plants, across the command headquarters premises.
Pramod Kumar Yadav, IG (HR & Logistics) led the plantation drive and emphasised the dual responsibility of the force toward national and environmental security.
"Our commitment to protecting the nation extends beyond securing borders to safeguarding our natural heritage. Environmental degradation poses as serious a threat to national security as any external adversary," he stated while addressing the gathering.
The initiative involved personnel from Headquarters Special DG BSF (WC) and Bn HQ 101 Battalion BSF, who took collective pledges to reduce single-use plastic consumption, implement water conservation measures, and adopt sustainable practices in their daily activities.
The BSF (WC) has been actively promoting green initiatives across its installations, with plans to expand similar environmental programs to all units under its jurisdiction.
The force aims to achieve carbon neutrality in its operations while maintaining operational readiness along India's western borders.
LPK Yadav, IG BSF announced that the command would institutionalise monthly environmental activities and establish green protocols for all administrative functions.
"Today's plantation drive is not a one-time event but the beginning of our sustained environmental mission," he added.
The BSF (WC), responsible for guarding the entire India-Pakistan border, continues to balance its security mandate with social responsibilities, reinforcing its role as a people-friendly force committed to national development. UNI GS SSP
