Punjab Police seize 27 kg heroin, foreign-made pistol in cross-border smuggling case; four held

Chandigarh, Sep 16 (UNI) Punjab Police have arrested four people and seized 27 kg of heroin and a foreign-made pistol after breaking up an alleged cross-border narcotics and arms smuggling module, the state's Director General of Police said on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out by Counter Intelligence, Amritsar, which also recovered three cartridges along with a sophisticated foreign-made .30-bore PX5 pistol, DGP Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X.
“In a major breakthrough against narcotics and illegal arms smuggling, Counter Intelligence, Amritsar foiled a cross-border smuggling module and apprehended four accused,” Yadav said.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were operating in coordination with a Dubai-based operative and cross-border smugglers, the DGP said.
The accused allegedly supplied narcotics and weapons further on the instructions of the Dubai-based operative, he added.
Meanwhile, the police did not immediately disclose the identities of the four arrested people or say where the heroin and weapon had originated.
A case has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar.
Investigators are now trying to establish the “backward and forward linkages” of the operation and identify others involved in the alleged smuggling network, Yadav said.
“Punjab Police remains committed to maintaining strict vigil against cross-border smuggling and taking decisive action against drug trafficking, illegal arms supply and organised criminal networks,” the DGP said.
Notably, police did not provide an estimated value for the seized heroin or further details about the alleged Dubai-based operative.
