Punjab sets Oct 15 deadline to address PUNBUS, PRTC contract workers' demands

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) Punjab Finance and Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday directed officials to address the legitimate demands of PUNBUS and PRTC contract workers by October 15 and sought an early meeting of the transport entities' boards in this regard.
Cheema issued the directions during meetings with representatives of the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS/PRTC Contract Workers' union and associations representing contractual instructors at government Industrial Training Institutes.
"All legitimate demands of the PUNBUS/PRTC contract workers should be redressed by October 15," Cheema said.
"The Transport Department must also convene a meeting of the Board of Directors without delay so that matters requiring the Board's concurrence can be approved promptly."
Cheema, who heads a Cabinet sub-committee dealing with employees' issues, also discussed demands raised by contractual ITI instructors, including job security up to the age of 58 and salary revision.
He directed Technical Education Director Moneesh Kumar to prepare a formal proposal for salary appraisal of ITI instructors and submit it to the Finance Department.
"Their extensive service as guest faculty and contract instructors must be taken into account while examining these issues," Cheema said.
The minister said the state government was engaging with employee unions across departments in an effort to resolve what he described as their genuine and legitimate demands through a structured process.
Representatives of the contract workers and ITI instructors presented their demands during the meetings.
