Puri police busts gun smuggling syndicate, nabs six youths

Puri, June 6 (UNI) In a surprise raid, the Sea-Beach police busted a gun smuggling syndicate in a deserted building near Urban Hat, arresting six youths and seizing six guns along with twenty live cartridges.
Puri Superintendent of Police Vinit Kumar told reporters on Friday that a special team had been formed to track the gun-running racket following a rise in criminal activities in the city.
He said that after months of surveillance, the police discovered the syndicate’s involvement in illegal gun smuggling and managed to arrest the culprits.
The kingpin of the racket, Denga Muna alias Ramesh Parida (29), who has been involved in 14 criminal cases, was also arrested, the SP said.
The other accused were found to be involved in several criminal cases as well. Interrogation is underway to trace their sources and identify their customer links.
All six arrested have been booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita related to organized crime, along with various sections of the Arms Act.

The Chheligada multipurpose medium irrigation project is located near the village Chheligada in R. Udayagiri block of the Gajapati district

The reservoir will have a concrete dam of 266m length, including the central spillway consisting of 7 nos. radial gates of size 12m x 6m.
