Rahul Gandhi, Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi extend Diwali greetings, call for peace, prosperity and harmony

New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, on Sunday, extended warm Diwali greetings to the people of the country, wishing happiness, prosperity and peace in every household while invoking the festival's message of hope, brotherhood, social harmony and the triumph of light over darkness.
In separate messages on social media platform X on the occasion of Diwali, the three senior Congress leaders conveyed their wishes to citizens across the country, emphasising the importance of happiness, mutual respect, fraternity and a society free from injustice, ignorance and discrimination.
Rahul Gandhi extended his greetings to people and their families, expressing the hope that the festival of lights would bring happiness and prosperity to every household and illuminate the country with peace, harmony and renewed hope.
"Warm Diwali wishes to you and your family! May the lamps of happiness and prosperity be lit in every home. May this sacred festival bring the light of happiness, peace, harmony and new hope across the whole of India," he said in his message.
Kharge, extending greetings on behalf of himself and the entire Congress organisation, including its leaders and workers, underlined the broader social and human values associated with the festival. He expressed the hope that the lamps of Diwali would spread happiness, peace and prosperity in every home and courtyard.
In a message that placed particular emphasis on social cohesion and constitutional values, the Congress president called for the enduring flame of love, brotherhood and mutual harmony to remain alight in society.
"May the darkness of injustice, ignorance and discrimination disappear, and may the light of justice, equality and harmony reach every person," Kharge said.
He further wished that a lamp of hope would burn in every heart and that every life would witness a new dawn of happiness.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also extended her heartfelt greetings to citizens on the auspicious occasion, describing Diwali as a sacred festival of light and happiness. Invoking the blessings of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, she prayed for happiness, prosperity and illumination in the lives of all Indians.
"Heartfelt wishes to everyone on the sacred festival of light and happiness, Diwali. I pray to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi that the lives of all citizens are filled with happiness and that peace, prosperity and light enter every life," she said.
The messages from the three Congress leaders reflected the traditional significance of Diwali as a festival celebrating the victory of light over darkness and the arrival of hope, prosperity and happiness. While their greetings conveyed personal wishes to families and households, Kharge's message also gave particular prominence to the ideals of justice, equality and fraternity, placing the festival's symbolism in the wider context of social harmony.
Diwali, celebrated across India and by Indian communities around the world, is associated with the lighting of lamps, prayers, family gatherings, the exchange of sweets and gifts, and the renewal of hope and goodwill. The festival carries different regional traditions and religious associations, but its central imagery of light overcoming darkness has given it a wider cultural significance.
The Congress leaders' greetings came amid the festival celebrations across the country, with their messages highlighting the shared aspirations of citizens for peace, prosperity, happiness and a harmonious society.
