Rail MoS reviews progress of Tumakuru–Davangere line

Chitradurga, May 17 (UNI) A high-level review meeting was held at the Chitradurga Deputy Commissioner's office on Saturday to assess the progress of the Tumakuru–Chitradurga–Davangere new railway line project, a major infrastructure initiative under South Western Railway aimed at improving regional connectivity in Central Karnataka.
The meeting was followed by an inspection of Level Crossing (LC) No. 22 at Chitradurga Railway Station, with a focus on enhancing safety and operational efficiency.
The review and inspection were led by Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna. He was accompanied by Chitradurga MP Govind M Karjol, District In-charge Minister D Sudhakar, MLAs TB Jayachandra, M Chandrappa, KC Verendra Puppy, T Raghumurthy, MLC KS Naveen, and senior railway officials including Ajay Sharma, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), and Mudit Mittal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru Division. Several public representatives and senior officers were also present.
The Tumakuru–Chitradurga–Davangere new line project covers a total length of approximately 191 km with an estimated outlay of ₹1801 crore. The line is expected to significantly boost connectivity between Rayadurga–Tumakuru and Tumakuru–Davangere. Officials said 90 per cent of the required land has already been acquired by the State Government, facilitating the commencement of key construction activities including yard development and bridge works.
To enhance safety, South Western Railway is also undertaking the replacement of level crossings with Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs).
Speaking on the occasion, Somanna stressed the need for timely execution of the project and urged officials to maintain momentum. "This project was pending for over 14 years. Now, with all stakeholders aligned, it is progressing well and moving toward completion," he said.
The minister added that the project stands as an example of effective coordination between the Centre and the State, and lauded the support extended by elected representatives and officials.
