Raja Khas in Indora declared Himachal's first solar model village

Dharamshala, May 27 (UNI) Raja Khas in Kangra district has been selected as the first solar model village of Himachal Pradesh, an official announced on Tuesday.
The village will receive a grant of Rs. 1 crore to support the development of solar and green energy infrastructure.
Chairing a meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) under the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana (Free Electricity Scheme), Kangra District Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa stated that 43 villages were shortlisted to compete for the solar model village status. The evaluation was conducted over a period of six months, during which solar installations were monitored across all participating villages.
Raja Khas emerged as the top-performing village with the highest number of solar installations and has thus been chosen as the model village. The grant will be utilised to expand green energy infrastructure and support the village’s transition to a fully solar-powered model.
A designated Solar Village Implementation Agency will now prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and execute the transformation of the village using solar technology.
The Deputy Commissioner also emphasised that the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana will be implemented effectively across Kangra district.
Project Officer of Himurja and DLCC Member Secretary, Ramesh Thakur, informed that the implementation of the Suryodaya scheme is being carried out by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL), with Himurja acting as the nodal agency for monitoring the project.
Key components of the scheme include central financial assistance for domestic solar consumers, solarisation of government buildings, incentive grants for local bodies, and the development of Model Energy Villages.
