Relief and rescue operations on war footing in Saran

Patna, Oct 2 ( UNI) Relief and rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing in flood-affected areas of Saran district, with a total of 19 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) engaged in rescue and relief efforts.
The Disaster Management Department and the district administration are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring the deployment of necessary rescue resources as floodwaters enter new areas. Saran already has five NDRF and three SDRF teams deployed. To intensify rescue operations, additional NDRF teams are being sent from several districts. Three teams from Bettiah, two from Gopalganj, two from Bhagalpur and one from Supaul are being deployed in Saran.
In addition, four SDRF teams are being sent from Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur and East Champaran.
With these deployments, Saran now has 12 NDRF teams and seven SDRF teams, making a total of 19 teams engaged in relief and rescue operations.
Each NDRF team comprises 30 trained personnel and is equipped with five boats, 30 lifebuoys, 40 life jackets, two deep-dive sets and other essential rescue equipment. These resources are being used to evacuate people from flood-hit areas to safer locations and deliver essential relief materials.
A total of 360 trained NDRF personnel are currently deployed in Saran. The teams have more than 50 boats, 480 life jackets and 360 lifebuoys at their disposal.
The SDRF teams being deployed also have trained personnel and boats. The teams being sent from Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur and East Champaran comprise 20, 20, 19 and 18 personnel respectively, along with four, six, six and six boats.
Overall, more than 140 trained SDRF personnel and over 36 boats are being deployed for relief and rescue operations.
To ensure the availability of food supplies in flood-affected areas, more than 3,000 ration packets have so far been air-dropped by Air Force helicopters. More than 5,000 packets are expected to be air-dropped by the evening.
Additional ration packets are also being sent to Saran from neighbouring districts. Patna is providing 10,000 packets, Siwan 15,000, Bhojpur 5,000, Buxar 5,000 and Vaishali 5,000, taking the total number of ration packets being sent from different districts to 40,000.
To provide immediate relief to flood-affected families, 75,000 polythene sheets are also being sent to Saran. These include 25,000 sheets from Darbhanga, 20,000 from Madhubani, 15,000 from Sitamarhi and 15,000 from Samastipur.
The district administration is continuously monitoring the distribution of relief materials, rescue operations and the availability of essential services in affected areas. Additional resources are being deployed and relief supplies arranged according to the evolving flood situation and local requirements.
As directed by the Chief Minister, the Disaster Management Department said it is committed to providing all possible assistance to people affected by the disaster.
