Resident doctors of AGMC threatened to resort to pen-down strike from Oct 5

Agartala, Oct 4 (UNI) Resident doctors and postgraduate trainees at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) are poised to launch a pen-down strike from tomorrow after an incident involving a senior resident doctor and the subsequent spread of related content on social media.
The Resident Doctors’ Association has set a deadline for authorities to meet four specific demands by tomorrow morning, warning that failure to comply will result in the planned strike.
The RDA explained that it decided to share its perspective publicly because of the spread of unauthorized and misleading content online. They underscored that the issue extends beyond this incident, touching on the privacy, dignity, and professional standing of healthcare workers.
Key demands include the arrest and legal action against individuals allegedly responsible for recording and disseminating the video of a clinical examination of a patient without permission. The association also seeks action against social media accounts and platforms accused of sharing unverified or defamatory content against the doctor.
The RDA demands the removal of all online posts, such as videos, photos, and reels that they claim are misleading and defamatory. They urge authorities to prevent further circulation or uploading of such material. They called on media outlets and social media platforms that shared allegedly unverified information to issue corrections or clarifications and apologies where warranted by law.
The doctors’ body highlighted that spreading unverified content could have broader implications, potentially impacting the doctor-patient relationship and public trust in medical professionals. They appealed to the public to verify information before sharing or forming opinions based on social media posts.
The RDA affirmed that resident doctors and PGTs will maintain their professional duties while advocating for the protection of healthcare workers' dignity and integrity. Nonetheless, they stressed that without resolution by the given deadline, they will commence pen-down.
However, Chief Minister, holding the health portfolio, Dr Manik Saha said, “The matter has come to his notice and appropriate directions were given to resolve the issue. Since the matter is related to a social media post and circulation, the government is looking into the legal angle to deal with the matter. The doctors also need to understand the impact on society of their agitation.”
