RLM suspends Ram Pukar Sinha for defying NDA in Bihar MLC poll

Patna, Oct 12 (UNI) The Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) has suspended its State General Secretary Ram Pukar Sinha for six years for contesting against the NDA candidate in the Saran Teachers’ constituency election to the Bihar Legislative Council.
In a letter issued on Monday, RLM State Working President Prashant Pankaj described Sinha’s decision to enter the fray against the NDA candidate as an act of indiscipline.
The NDA has fielded Janata Dal (United) candidate Anand Pushkar from the Saran Teachers’ constituency. RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha has already announced his party’s support for the NDA candidate.
However, the controversy deepened after RLM State President and MLA Alok Singh announced Sinha’s candidature. The party’s Bajpatti MLA Rameshwar Mahto and Madhubani MLA Madhav Anand also declared their support for Sinha.
All three MLAs were present when Sinha filed his nomination as an independent candidate. They also appealed to voters in the Saran region to vote in his favour, openly signalling their support for a candidate challenging the NDA nominee despite their party chief’s declared position.
The three legislators were also absent from the NDA legislative party meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence, adding to questions about their relationship with the party leadership and the alliance.
The development has triggered speculation within political circles over whether the party will initiate disciplinary action against the three MLAs.
The RLM has four MLAs, including Kushwaha’s wife, Snehlata Kushwaha.
The latest episode comes amid reports of growing differences within the RLM after Kushwaha’s son, Deepak Prakash, was inducted into the Bihar Cabinet as Panchayati Raj Minister. Prakash took the oath of office alongside Chief Minister Nitish Kumar despite not being a member of either House of the state legislature at the time.
Although none of the three MLAs openly challenged Kushwaha over his son’s ministerial appointment, they reportedly began distancing themselves from the party chief and have periodically indicated their discontent.
