Sambhaji Brigade welcomes drought declaration in 265 Maha talukas

Mumbai, Sep 27 (UNI) The Sambhaji Brigade today welcomed the Maharashtra government's decision to declare drought in 265 of the state's 358 talukas and urged the government to ensure that financial assistance reaches farmers at the earliest.
The state government declared the drought following rainfall deficiency and prolonged dry spells, covering around 74 per cent of Maharashtra.
Sambhaji Brigade state spokesperson Advocate Santosh Shinde said that the drought declaration would have little meaning unless financial assistance was actually credited to the accounts of distressed farmers.
He also demanded that the government extend financial assistance to agricultural labourers whose livelihoods depend on farming, and not limit the relief only to farmers.
Shinde saidm "We thank and congratulate Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for declaring drought in 265 talukas. However, the government should ensure that concrete financial assistance reaches farmers. Agricultural labourers who depend on farming must also be considered for relief," UNI SP SS
