Season's hottest day: Una hits 42.4°C, Shimla records peak temperature at 29°C

Shimla, June 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh witnessed an intense heatwave on Monday as Una recorded a scorching 42.4 degree Celsius, the highest of the season so far and the second-highest ever recorded in June in the state.
Close on its heels, Neri, Paonta Sahib, and Dhaulakuan also sizzled at 42°C, painting a clear picture of rising mercury across the plains and lower hills.
According to the Meteorological Centre, maximum temperatures remained significantly above normal at several stations, with Mandi (39.4°C), Bilaspur (40.1°C), and Berthin (38.7°C) also enduring the heat.
The state capital Shimla too saw its hottest day of the season at 29°C, surpassing the previous peak of 28.6°C recorded in May this year.
Amid the soaring temperatures, air quality dipped to moderate levels as light haze and elevated humidity levels were observed in many areas, particularly in the lower hill districts.
No major rainfall was recorded in the state, and the weather is expected to remain mainly dry over the next three days, with no large changes in maximum temperatures forecast.
The persistent dry and hot spell has led to concerns over fire risk in forested areas and further water stress.
The Meteorological Department continues to advise precautionary measures, especially for the elderly and children, as temperatures in the lower hills and foothill regions remain well above normal.
