Second accused in double murder case in North Tripura arrested

Agartala, Oct 22 (UNI) The second accused in the double homicide case occurring in Baruakandi village situated along the Tripura-Assam border in North Tripura's Dharmanagar has been apprehended this morning, police SAID.
Acting on confidential intelligence, a police contingent conducted a dawn raid on a residence in the village and apprehended one of the principal suspects, Rahul Das (37). Immediately following the incident on October 20, police arrested the primary perpetrator, Bijan Das, who was subsequently hospitalized with critical injuries.
Police said two additional individuals implicated in the case remain at large.
Two brothers, Jaydeep Roy Chowdhury and Shubhajit Roy Chowdhury, residents of Dewanpasha village, had ventured out for Pandal hopping during Durga Puja celebrations when they were attacked in their village. Bijan Das, identified as the principal accused, also sustained severe injuries during the assault.
The victims' father, Samiran Roy Chowdhury, has filed a complaint alleging that his sons had attempted to resolve a local dispute on October 19 but subsequently received death threats from Bijan Das, who allegedly made multiple threatening telephone calls the following day. The subsequent evening, both brothers were discovered deceased near a marriage hall in Baruakandi.
North Tripura District Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai stated that a monetary dispute allegedly motivated the brutal killings. Preliminary investigation findings suggest that Bijan Das allegedly attacked and murdered the two brothers with a knife following a financial disagreement that escalated into violence.
He indicated that investigative findings point to a dispute concerning financial transactions as the underlying motive for the double murder. Police are scrutinizing the sequence of circumstances that led to the fatal assault and the specifics of the alleged monetary disagreement between the involved parties.
The SP further noted that multiple witnesses to the incident exist. Their testimonies, combined with additional evidence obtained during the investigation, are anticipated to be instrumental in establishing the chronological sequence of events and the alleged culpability of the accused.
He assured that the investigation shall be accelerated and that a charge sheet will be submitted at the earliest feasible moment.
The police department is committed to ensuring that the case advances through the judicial system without unwarranted postponement and that the accused is brought before the court in compliance with legal procedures.
