Sharad Pawar faction to join Thackeray brothers’ October 4 protest march: Rohit Pawar

Mumbai, Sep 27 ( UNI) NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar on Sunday announced that his party would participate in the October 4 protest march being jointly led by MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Raj Thackeray has called the march over issues concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and appealed to political parties across the spectrum to join the protest. The Thackeray brothers are expected to jointly lead the demonstration.
Speaking to reporters, Rohit Pawar said it was appropriate for his party to participate in the march, but maintained that issues related to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) should also be raised. He also said, "The identity of the person referred to as 'Gyanesh Kumar of Maharashtra' would have to be established."
The proposed march comes after a meeting between Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, during which the issue of organising a protest against the Election Commission was discussed. Raj Thackeray subsequently announced the march through a social media post.
The Thackeray brothers have appealed to political parties across the spectrum to participate, saying the protest should represent a broader voice concerning the political system and the public rather than remain limited to a single party.
Rohit Pawar's announcement that the Sharad Pawar faction would join the march has added to speculation about wider opposition participation in the October 4 demonstration. UNI SP AAB
