SIR taken up to verify eligibility of electors in Bihar

Patna, June 28 (UNI) The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has started in Bihar for verifying the eligibility of each elector for the upcoming state assembly election due later this year.
Election Commission sources said here today that the SIR has been taken up with full participation of all political parties. Out of the existing 7,89,69,844 electors, 4.96 crore electors, whose names were already in the last intensive revision of electoral roll on January 1, 2003 have to simply verify and fill the enumeration form, sources said.
According to sources, door-to-door distribution of new Enumeration Forms (EF) for all the existing 7,89,69,844 electors of the state has already started in each of the 243 Assembly constituencies of the state. Online filling of the new Enumeration Forms (EFs) has been enabled and has started successfully.
SMSs were also being sent in this connection to the 5,74,07,022 registered mobile numbers of Bihar, added the source .
All activities relating to SIR were in progress as per schedule, said sources, adding that the BLOs were being engaged full time by the divisional commissioners and district magistrates for the SIR.
According to the sources, 77,895 booth-level officers (BLOs) have been appointed by the ECI which is further appointing nearly 20,603 more BLOs for new polling stations.
All recognised national and state political parties have also appointed 1,54,977 booth level agents , the sources stated.
Sources said more than one lakh volunteers will be assisting genuine electors, particularly the old, sick, persons with Disabilities (PwD), poor and other vulnerable groups during the SIR.
