Sisi, CIA chief Ratcliffe discuss Iran, Gaza, Sudan in Cairo

Cairo, Sep 20 (UNI) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi held talks with visiting US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe on Sunday on regional developments, including the situations in Iran, Gaza and Sudan, the Egyptian presidency said.
During the meeting, Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's support for efforts toward "a comprehensive agreement that resolves the Iranian crisis", saying such an agreement would help restore regional security and stability and ensure freedom of international navigation, according to a presidency statement.
On Gaza, Sisi called for the full implementation of the second phase of the US-proposed plan to consolidate the ceasefire, stressing the need to protect civilians and ensure adequate and unhindered humanitarian aid reaches the enclave.
He also called for efforts to create conditions for resuming the political process toward "a fair and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue" based on international resolutions and the two-state solution.
Discussing Sudan, Sisi reiterated Egypt's support for the country's unity, stability and national institutions, describing Sudan's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity as "non-negotiable principles".
The two sides also discussed developments in Somalia and the Horn of Africa. Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's support for Somalia's security and stability and rejected any infringement on its sovereignty or territorial integrity.
Ratcliffe, for his part, praised Egypt's "pivotal role" in reaching the Gaza ceasefire agreement and its continued efforts to support the peace process and promote regional stability.
The CIA director stressed the importance of continued bilateral coordination on regional security issues, including Sudan, Somalia, the Horn of Africa and international maritime security, the statement said.
The meeting also addressed cooperation between the CIA and Egypt's General Intelligence Service in security and intelligence, counterterrorism, and efforts to combat organised and transnational crime.UNI AAB
