Triumphal arch to be used as military complex storing ammunition : Trump

Washington, Sept 20 (UNI) US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he would prefer massive arch between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery to become a “top grade military complex” able to host drones and snipers while storing ammunition.
He said that the decision has been taken after it was requested by the US military for national security purposes.
“At the strong request of the United States Military, and for National Security purposes, I have agreed to convert the magnificent Triumphal Arch, planned since the Civil War Era many years ago, at the Receptive Circle adjoining the Arlington Memorial Bridge, into a top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
He said the complex would be designed to “house, store, and have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers, on both the roof and plaza areas,” as well as store “large quantities of sniper ammunition in storage.”
Trump said there would be “no facility like this anywhere in the World.”
“Out of the 59 top cities and Capitals, Washington, D.C., IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD THAT DOES NOT HAVE A TRIUMPHAL ARCH, but it will now and, by far, the greatest of them all!” he added.
The planned arch is expected to stand about 250 feet tall and would be built near Arlington National Cemetery, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. Plans call for the structure to be clad in granite, topped with three golden statues and include an observation deck.
The project is part of Trump's broader efforts to reshape Washington's architecture and comes as the US prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The proposed arch has drawn concerns over its height, its potential impact on views between major Washington monuments and Arlington National Cemetery, and its proximity to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration proposed adding a “non-standard eternal flame” to make the structure more visible to pilots, along with searchlight projectors. The FAA said in a recent hazard study that the arch “would not pose a hazard to aircraft” after reviewing airspace, air traffic patterns and procedures around the airport and nearby military and public-use airports.
The agency had earlier said the structure would require red lights because structures in Washington exceeding 200 feet in height should normally be marked or lighted, although an aeronautical study could determine that such measures were not necessary for aviation safety.
The military-complex proposal echoes Trump's plans for a major complex beneath a proposed White House ballroom, which administration lawyers have described in court as linked to national security concerns.UNI AAB
