Socialism and secularism bring people closer: Akhilesh Yadav

Lucknow, Jun 26 (UNI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday stressed that the philosophies of socialism and secularism bring people closer and he labelled people opposing these concepts as communal.

The SP president's statement comes as a counter to Uttar Pradesh chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's yesterday's comment where he said that adding the word secular and socialist in the Constitution is against the soul of India.

Addressing a press conference here today, Akhilesh Yadav said that secular though protects the "Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb" of the country and it connects people of different religions to each other which makes society strong.

He said that monopolists oppose socialism as it weakens their domination of the market. "To be a socialist and secular, one must have a big heart, while heartless people always oppose this. People whose base is communalism always oppose secularism," he added.

The SP President further alleged that the BJP uses the Constitution to gain power, but as soon as it comes to power, it forgets to respect the Constitution.

He said that the people of BJP vow to maintain the constitution given by Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, but do not show loyalty to the Constitution anywhere in their works.
