Southwest Monsoon advances further; conditions favourable for more progress over next 3 days: Met

Amaravati, May 25 (UNI) The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into additional parts of the west central and east central Arabian Sea, parts of Karnataka, the entire state of Goa, parts of Maharashtra, more areas of the west central and north Bay of Bengal, and parts of Mizoram, Manipur, and Nagaland, according to the Meteorological Centre.

In its daily weather report issued on Sunday, the Centre stated that conditions remain favorable for further advancement of the monsoon into more areas of the central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra (including Mumbai), Karnataka (including Bengaluru), parts of Andhra Pradesh, the remaining areas of Tamil Nadu, more parts of the west central and north Bay of Bengal, and additional areas of the Northeastern states over the next three days.
The report also noted the presence of an upper air trough extending from the east central Arabian Sea to north Odisha, traversing central Maharashtra, north Telangana, and south Chhattisgarh. This trough lies between 1.5 and 4.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting southwards with height.

Additionally, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the west central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around May 27, the report added.
