Kannur, May 25 (UNI) A 64-year-old man was killed on Sunday when a coconut tree fell on his moving scooter at Villipallay near Vadakara, following heavy rains in this northern Kerala district over the past two days.
According to police, the deceased was identified as M Pavithran, residing near Kottiyam Palli temple at Villiappally.
The accident took place around the afternoon, when Pavitharan was riding his scooter to reach Villiappally town. A coconut tree got uprooted from a nearby house and fell on his two-wheeler.
The locals rushed to the spot and removed the coconut tree, and shifted the victim to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
In another accident at Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur district, a tree fell on the moving Jamnagar- Tirunelveli express around 10 AM.
The loco pilot stopped the train and no causalty was reported/ Train movement resumed after an hour as the tree was removed from the railway track.
Two temporary roads at Chembanthottiyil and Kokkai near Sreekandapuram were partially washed away following rains in the hilly areas of Kannur district on Sunday evening.
