Southwest Monsoon advances further over Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal

Amaravati, May 19 (UNI) The Southwest Monsoon advanced further on Monday over additional parts of the south Arabian Sea, the Maldives and Comorin area, the south and central Bay of Bengal, and parts of the northeast Bay of Bengal, according to the Meteorological Centre.

In its daily weather report, the Centre stated that conditions remain favourable for the further advancement of the monsoon over more areas of the south Arabian Sea, the remaining parts of the Maldives and Comorin area, and further parts of the south, central, and northeast Bay of Bengal during the next 2–3 days.

A trough currently extends from a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra to Rayalaseema across north interior Karnataka at an altitude of 0.9 km above mean sea level.

Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation that was located over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has now moved to the west-central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. This system extends between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestward with height.

Another trough runs from the southeast Bay of Bengal to north interior Karnataka, passing through the aforementioned cyclonic circulation over the west-central and southwest Bay of Bengal, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema. This trough also extends between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestward with height, the report added.
