Amaravati, May 24 (UNI) The Southwest Monsoon made an early onset over Kerala on Saturday, nearly a week ahead of its normal arrival date of June 1.
The monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of the south Arabian Sea, parts of Westcentral and East Central Arabian Sea, the entire Lakshadweep area, Kerala, Mahe, some parts of Karnataka, remaining parts of the Maldives, Comorin area, many parts of Tamil Nadu, remaining parts of southwest and east central Bay of Bengal, parts of West central and north Bay of Bengal,
and some parts of Mizoram, Meteorological Centre said.
In a daily weather report here, it said that the meteorological conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to progress further over the next 2-3 days.
The advance is expected to cover more parts of central Arabian Sea, the entire state of Goa, some parts of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, additional areas of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and further regions in the Westcentral and North Bay of Bengal.
The monsoon will also extend into some northeastern states and parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Additionally, a low-pressure area is forecast to develop over the Westcentral and adjoining North Bay of Bengal around May 27, which may influence further monsoon activity.
The early onset of the Southwest Monsoon is welcomed by farmers and residents, signalling the start of the crucial rainy season that supports agriculture and water resources across the country, the report added.
