Sridhar Babu gets relief in Kaleshwaram protest case, calls It a victory for farmers

Hyderabad, May 17 (UNI) Telangana IT and Industry Minister D Sridhar Babu, received legal relief on Saturday after a special court for public representatives in Nampally dismissed a case filed against him in connection with a protest during the Kaleshwaram Project public consultation.
The case, originally registered at Basantnagar Police Station in Peddapalli district on August 23, 2017, accused the minister and 13 others of obstructing official duties during the event. However, the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to proceed and dismissed the charges.
Speaking to the media following the verdict, Minister Sridhar Babu said the dismissal of the case was not just a personal relief but a victory for the farmers who lost their lands to the Kaleshwaram project.
He reiterated his stance that he had always stood with the displaced farmers and maintained that the charges filed against him were politically motivated and baseless.
Sridhar Babu criticised the previous KCR-led government for its handling of the Kaleshwaram project, alleging that it was riddled with corruption and failed to bring the promised benefits to the farming community.
He accused the former administration of suppressing democratic voices, stating that even protesting farmers were lathi-charged without justification.
Emphasising that justice had prevailed, the minister said a commission is currently investigating irregularities related to the Kaleshwaram project.
He warned that those involved in wrongdoing will be held accountable. Sridhar Babu concluded by asserting that the court’s verdict reinforces faith in the judiciary and sends a clear message in support of those who speak up for public interest and the rights of farmers.
