Strained marriage, midnight quarrel end in woman’s death; husband held

New Delhi, Sep 16 (UNI) A man was arrested for allegedly strangling his wife to death following a dispute in Central Delhi’s Anand Parbat, police said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Chandrapal Bhati, aged 24, lived with his wife in a rented room in Baljit Nagar locality. Police said they had a strained marriage that led to Tuesday’s quarrel, following which Bhati allegedly killed his 32-year-old wife at their residence.
“Information about the murder was received at Anand Parbat on September 14, following which a team reached the spot and found the woman lying dead inside a room. The deceased was living there with her husband, their two minor daughters and her mother,” a senior police officer said.
Initial inquiry based on the woman’s 10-year-old daughter suggested the husband’s role in the murder. Police said the daughter, who woke up in the middle of the night, around 3:45-4 a.m., saw her father examining her mother’s breath. He then left the house, after which the girl found that her mother was unresponsive, they said, recounting the girl’s statement.
Officials found nail-like marks on the left side of the wife’s neck during the examination of the woman’s body. The Crime Team and FSL team inspected the scene.
“The woman was taken to Lok Nayak Hospital, where she was declared dead. A postmortem was later conducted to know the actual reason behind her death. Based on the minor daughter’s statement and circumstantial evidence, police suspected the husband’s involvement and registered an FIR on September 15,” the officer said.
The accused was traced to Bulandshahar and later apprehended, they added.
During interrogation, Bhati disclosed that he strangled his wife following an altercation arising from their strained marital relations and frequent quarrels.
The accused has no previous criminal involvement, police said, and added that further investigation is underway.
