Students protest in Hyderabad, demand release of Rs 8,500 cr fee reimbursement dues

Hyderabad, Oct 29 (UNI) Thousands of students staged a protest on Thursday near Shankar Mart in Vidyanagar, demanding the immediate release of Rs 8,500 crore in pending fee reimbursements and scholarships for 14 lakh students across Telangana.
The protesters also sought the release of academic certificates withheld from nearly six lakh students who had completed their courses.
The demonstration was led by State BC Students’ Association Convener Pallagorla Modi Ramdev Yadav.
Addressing the protesters, Rajya Sabha MP and National BC Welfare Association President R Krishnaiah said the delay in clearing the dues was severely affecting students from economically weaker sections, depriving many of job opportunities and admission to higher educational institutions.
He said that despite the Chief Minister’s assurance in the Assembly to provide funds for fee reimbursements, the dues remained unpaid. He alleged that colleges were withholding certificates and, in some cases, denying admissions and examination hall tickets over unpaid fees.
Krishnaiah demanded immediate clearance of the pending dues without conditions, continuation of the fee reimbursement scheme without burdening students, and an increase in college scholarships to Rs 5,000–Rs 20,000 per student. He also urged the government to introduce direct notifications to students about the status of sanctioned reimbursements.
The protesters warned that the delay was jeopardising the educational and career prospects of thousands of students and urged the government to resolve the issue immediately.
