Subhadra scheme helps over 26 pc Odisha women become self-reliant: Dy CM

Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (UNI) The Odisha government’s Subhadra scheme has helped more than 26 per cent of its women beneficiaries become self-reliant through entrepreneurship, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said on Wednesday.
Parida, who also holds the Women and Child Development portfolio, said the assessment was based on studies by IIM Sambalpur, the State Bank of India (SBI) and NITI Aayog.
Addressing a press conference on the achievements of the scheme over the past two years, she said financial assistance of Rs 25,800 crore had been transferred directly to the bank accounts of more than 1.03 crore women beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) in five instalments.
She said the successful completion of two years of the Subhadra scheme would be observed on September 17 as a day dedicated to women’s empowerment, dignity and self-respect.
The Deputy Chief Minister appealed to people across Odisha to light lamps at their homes, temples or other prominent places between 1800 hours and 1900 hours on September 17 to mark the occasion.
She said the lamp-lighting initiative was aimed at celebrating the spirit of women’s empowerment, self-reliance and dignity associated with the Subhadra scheme.
Parida said rangoli competitions and special programmes would also be organised at all ICDS projects, Anganwadi Centres and offices of Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) across the state.
She said the Women and Child Development Department was also working towards making Odisha 100 percent free from malnutrition through the Poshan Abhiyan and building a “Nourished and Developed Odisha”.
The Deputy Chief Minister urged people to participate in the September 17 celebrations and make the occasion a collective expression of support for women’s empowerment and self-reliance.
